2/16/12 Impact Wrestling Recap

Footage from Against All Odds is aired that shows Gunner defeating Garret Bischoff and Bobby Roode retaining the TNA World Championship after Sting inadvertently nailed Jeff Hardy with the title belt. Hardy says he doesn’t know what Sting is thinking, but he hopes to get another shot at Roode.

We then head into the Impact Zone where Bobby Roode is making his way to the ring. Roode grabs a microphone and says he is still the World Champion by overcoming the odds and defeating Jeff Hardy, James Storm and Bully Ray at Against All Odds. Roode then says he played Sting for the fool that he is and says the finger of blame should be pointed at himself.

Sting’s music hits as he makes his way to the ring to join the World Champion. Sting says he let his anger and rage get the best of him and effected the outcome of the match. However, he wants to make things right with Jeff Hardy and books Roode in a match against Hardy in a match for the TNA World Championship tonight. Sting says there will be no time limit and no disqualification before leaving the ring. Sting says that match will happen right after the commercial break.

Brandon Jacobs of the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants is seen sitting ringside for tonight’s event. We then head into the first match of the night, which if for the TNA World Championship.

Match 1: Bobby Roode vs. Jeff Hardy (TNA World Championship)
Jeremy Borash is standing in the ring for the formal introductions but Hardy runs into the ring to get this match immediately started. Hardy goes on the attack and hits Roode with a flurry of offense before Roode can stall his momentum by dropping Hardy on the mat. It doesn’t last long as Hardy is able to dump Roode out to the floor and then dives on top of the World Champion.

Hardy then grabs a chair and nails Roode with it a couple of times before sending Roode into the guard railing. Hardy continues to punish Roode on the floor and suplexes Roode on the floor. Roode begins to crawl up the entrance ramp but Hardy stops him with a hard chair shot to the back. Hardy sends Roode into the side of the ring a few times to please the fans and then sends him into the steel steps. Hardy then uses the steps to hit Roode with Poetry in Motion into the railing. We then head into a commercial break as both Roode and Hardy are lying on the floor.

We return to the match to see hit a face first suplex to pick up a two count over Roode. Hardy then heads to the top rope, however, Roode pushes the referee into the ropes and knocks Hardy down. Roode sends Hardy out to the floor and Roode goes out there where he sends Hardy into the railing. Roode goes for a piledriver on the floor, but Hardy counters and sends Roode crashing onto the entrance ramp with a back body drop.

Hardy brings Roode up the ramp and shoves Roode off the stage and onto the floor before diving on him and connecting with a clothesline. Hardy goes for a Twist of Fate but Roode shoves Hardy into the stage. Roode then charges at Hardy but Hardy moves and Roode runs into the stage wall. Hardy drags Roode back into the ring but Kurt Angle runs out and sends Hardy into the steel steps. Angle then rolls Hardy into the ring where Roode levels him with a spear to pick up the pin fall and retain the TNA World Championship.

After the match, Roode clutches his championship and sits in the corner as Kurt Angle stares into the ring and we head into a commercial break.

After the break, Roode is backstage and wonders how many chances Hardy will get at the title. Roode then wonders what Sting will try to do next as Sting comes in and says Roode cheated Hardy one more time. Sting says he is not done yet and he will defend the title once again and he is going to book a #1 contenders match for later on tonight.

Eric Young is backstage with a guitar and says he forgot to get ODB a Valentine’s Day gift. EY says he blew it and he is going to win her back later on tonight.

Sting says he is pissed off and says James Storm and Bully Ray have some unfinished business. Sting asks if they are in for a #1 contenders match as the two exchange some words. Sting says it looks like they have themselves a date as we head into a commercial break.

We are warned about upcoming graphic content as footage of the opening match from Against All Odds is aired. Jesse Sorensen was seriously injured by a high risk move from Zema Ion. Mike Tenay says there is nothing worse than seeing this happen before his eyes and says Sorensen broke the top vertebra in his neck, however, a miracle happened as he is regaining feeling in his arms and legs. Tenay says Sorensen wants to say thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers he has received.

Match 2: Zema Ion & Austin Aries vs. Shannon Moore & Alex Shelley
Aries starts off against Moore and he takes him down with a dropkick and showboats for a bit as Ion tags himself into the match. Moore takes Ion down with a cross body block for a two count before tagging Shelley into the match. Shelley works over Ion for a bit, however Ion is able to take Shelley down with a few kicks. Ion then shares some words with his partner, who tags himself into the match. The match then breaks down for a bit as all four are in the ring. Moore then sends Aries out to the floor and hits him with moonsault from the apron.

Moore then begins to use Ion’s hairspray and Ion takes him down with a dropkick through the ropes. Ion then heads to the top rope but Shelley knocks him down. The action returns to the ring, where Moore takes Aries down with a body slam and tags in Shelley, who heads to the top rope for a double boot stomp, but Aries rolls out of the way. Aries then blocks an attempt at Sliced Bread #2 as Ion tags himself into the match and rolls up Shelley to pick up the pin fall. After the match, Ion begins to do the belt pose as Aries walks up to him and puts the X Division Championship in his face.

Gail Kim and Madison Rayne are walking backstage where Madison says she thinks they haven’t been on the same page. She says she doesn’t want to fight anymore as tells her to sit ringside and look beautiful to watch the #1 contenders match for the Knockouts Championship.

Match 3: Knockout Battle Royal (Brooke Tessmacher/Tara/Angelina Love/Winter/Sarita/Rosita/ODB/Mickie James/Velvet Sky/Madison Rayne)
The winner of this battle royal will become the #1 contender to the Knockouts Championship. Before the battle royal starts, Madison grabs a microphone and says Gail Kim is a gracious champion and doesn’t owe anyone anything. However, she is giving everyone in the ring a chance at earning a shot at the Knockouts Championship. The bell rings as Gail and Madison watch from ringside. Winter and Brooke are quickly eliminated and ODB lifts Rosita over her head and tosses her out to the floor.

Mickie and ODB fight near the ropes as the rest of the Knockouts try to eliminate them, however, they both are able to land on the apron. Mickie then heads to the top rope but ODB shoves her off and she goes crashing to the floor to be eliminated. ODB is then eliminated when the rest of the Knockouts in the ring charge at her and knock her down to the floor. Angelina, Velvet, Sarita and Tara are remaining as they pair off against each other. Sarita nearly eliminates Tara but she lands on the apron, however, Angelina hits her with a dropkick to knock her out to the floor.

Sarita and Angelina work together against Velvet but she fights back with a series of clotheslines. Angelina and Velvet begin to fight near the ropes where Sarita tries to eliminate Angelina but all of them remain in the ring. Angelina then takes Velvet down with a big boot to the face before trying to eliminate her but Sarita grabs Angelina and tosses her out to the floor.

Velvet and Sarita are the final two in the battle royal and Sarita charges at Velvet, but Velvet pulls down the ropes and Sarita goes out to the floor. Madison then runs into the ring and eliminates Velvet from the match. Gail asks what Madison is doing as she smiles in the ring. Madison’s music begins to play as the announcers say she must have been part of the match and she is now the #1 contender to the Knockouts Championship.

James Storm is backstage and says his match against Bully Ray is going to be a fight. Storm says Ray will punch you in the face but he will punch right back. Storm says he will be the last one standing as the #1 contender match is still to come. We then see Eric Bischoff and Gunner walking backstage, who we will hear from next.

Samoa Joe and Magnus are backstage with the TNA Tag Team Championship. Magnus says they are the right guys to hold the titles as they are the best team going today. Joe says Crimson and Matt Morgan are getting a rematch next week, but they are going to stay the champions.

A video package of the match between Gunner and Garret Bischoff from Against All Odds is aired. Hogan was going to throw in the towel but Garret pleaded for him not to do it and lost the match after Gunner hit him with a DDT.

Eric Bischoff’s music then hits as he makes his way to the ring with Gunner, Ric Flair and Chelsea, who is making her return to Impact Wrestling. Bischoff grabs a microphone and says Gunner, along with Ric Flair, helped put an end to his son’s wrestling career and wants to celebrate. Bischoff brings out some champagne and cigars and sends his son a message by saying that he won’t come close to accomplishing what he has done. Bischoff tells his son to find a new line of work and wishes him luck in his future endeavors.

Bully Ray is backstage and says his match against James Storm shouldn’t be happening as he should already be TNA World Champion. Ray says he is going to go through Storm to get a chance to face his buddy, Bobby Roode.

Christy Hemme is backstage with the host of MMA Uncensored Live, which debuts next Thursday. He hypes the show and says they will cover it all and it will be aired live.

EY catches up with ODB and apologizes for not calling her on Valentine’s Day. He begins to play the guitar and says it’s his Ode to ODB. Young begins to sing and gets her to laugh. ODB says it’s getting hot in here and drags him away while saying it’s time for his present.

Match 4: Bully Ray vs. James Storm (#1 Contender Match to TNA World Championship)
The bell rings and Storm goes on the offensive, but Ray makes it to the ropes to stall his momentum. Storm comes back with a series of strikes and kicks but Ray trips up Storm and begins to work over Storm’s leg. Ray slams Storm’s leg on the leg apron and takes off his boot before working over his leg some more. Storm makes it to the ropes to break the hold but Storm is having troubles making it to his feet. Ray then slams Storm’s knee into the mat before putting him in a single leg Boston crab. Ray continues to work over Storm’s leg as we head into a commercial break.

We return to the match to see Storm fighting back for a moment, but Ray takes him down with a dropkick to the leg. Ray goes for a couple of covers but Storm is able to kick out. Ray begins to get cocky and Storm rocks him with a right before connecting with a superkick with the foot that still has a boot on it. Storm then covers Ray to pick up the pin fall and earns a shot at Bobby Roode and the TNA World Championship.

After the match, Storm grabs a few beers and celebrates as Brandon Jacobs hops the railing to celebrate with Storm. The two spray beer around as Ray sneaks in from behind and nails Storm with a cheap shot. Ray turns his attention to Jacobs and begins to yell at him. Ray steals his beer and spits it in Jacobs’s face. Jacobs then pushes him down as TNA agents come out and hold him back. Storm also holds Jacobs back before getting in the ring with Storm. The two celebrate in the ring as we head into the final commercial break of the night.

Storm and Jacobs are backstage and Jacobs says Storm did a good job tonight and that Bully Ray is out of line. Storm says it’s time for him to lay a NY beat down like they did against New England. Storm says he is going to lay the smackdown next week and they are going to come after Ray NY style.

Sting is in the ring and calls out Bobby Roode, who comes out and joins Sting in the ring. Sting says he is happy to announce Roode against Storm for the TNA World Championship at Lockdown. Roode then kicks Sting below the belt and gives him a knee in the gut for good measure. Roode then kicks him in the ribs and nails Sting in the head with the title, which cuts Sting open. Roode begins to pound on Sting’s forehead and leaves him lying on the canvas as Impact Wrestling comes to a close.
