11/22/12 Impact Wrestling Recap (Open Fight Night)

I want to wish everyone out there a happy Thanksgiving on behalf of Gerweck.net. I’ll be covering tonight’s pre-taped Impact Wrestling edition of Open Fight night live as it is aired. Sit back, enjoy your turkey, and watch along with me tonight.

A “Previously on Impact Wrestling” recap is aired, which focuses on last week’s tag team match with Kurt Angle and Garett Bischoff taking on Aces & Eights. Aces & Eights targeting Magnus is also recapped as is Bobby Roode defeating James Storm to become the #1 contender to the TNA World Championship.

We head into the Impact Zone and are welcomed to this week’s show, which is a Gut Check edition of Open Fight Night. Jeremy Borash is in the ring with Wes Brisco and we are getting a Gut Check match right out of the gate.

Match 1: Wes Brisco vs. Garett Bischoff (TNA Gut Check)
The bell rings and the two grapple in the early going and counter each others moves as they fight to a stand still. Kurt Angle comes down to the ringside area to watch this match up close and cheers Brisco on. The match continues as the two go back and forth and trade pin attempts until Brisco finally rolls up Bischoff and picks up the pin fall. Angle runs into the ring and celebrates with Brisco and Bischoff even joins in on the celebration.

Al Snow is backstage with all of the previous Gut Check winners and tells them that it is their night. He tells them all that tonight they will have the opportunity to make or break their career as we head into a commercial break.

Kurt Angle is backstage with Wes Brisco and Garett Bischoff and he tell the both of them that they need to slow things down but he is proud of Brisco. Angle says he is almost guaranteed a spot on the roster.

Joey Ryan comes down to the ring and says it’s Open Fight Night for all of the Gut Check winners. Ryan says he didn’t need to win Gut Check to become the biggest star to come out of it. He then goes on to say that Hulk Hogan has been trying to divide him and Matt Morgan but he can’t divide the tag team champions, which is what they will become. Ryan then calls out one half of the tag team champions in Chavo Guerrero.

Match 2: Joey Ryan vs. Chavo Guerrero
Ryan goes right on the attack as Guerrero enters the ring. Chavo makes a quick comeback and works over Ryan until Ryan connects with a back elbow and begins to focus on Guerrero’s injured shoulder. Ryan showboats to the crowd a bit and goes for a cover before continuing to wear Guerrero down. Guerrero fights his way back into the match with a dropkick and a hurricanrana and then hits his Three Amigos suplexes. Guerrero then heads to the top rope as Matt Morgan comes into the ring and takes him down with a hard choke slam as the referee calls for the bell. Hernandez then runs out and chases Morgan out of the ring as Guerrero wins the match via disqualification.

Austin Aries is backstage and says the person he is going to call out tonight doesn’t need a gut check, but he needs a reality check. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, it is also going to be a family affair.

Sam Shaw makes his way to the ring to make a challenge for Open Fight Night. Shaw says it’s an honor to be a Gut Check winner and calls out the very first Gut Check winner, Alex Silva.

Match 3: Sam Shaw vs. Alex Silva
Silva comes out and goes right after Shaw before even taking his jacket off. Silva takes his jacket off and continues on the attack as Mike Tenay and Taz talk about OVW and how Silva has gained a reputation as a hot head there. Silva works over Shaw with a headlock and a power slam before going for a back drop but Shaw lands on his heet and takes Silva down with a spear. Shaw comes back with a flurry of dropkicks and a neckbreaker before heading to the top rope and hitting a leg drop to pick up the pin fall for the victory.

Eric Young and ODB walk into Hulk Hogan’s office with the traditional turkey suit. EY says he wants to have a Turkey Suit Challenge tonight and Hulk Hogan tells him to call someone out tonight, but to watch out for Aces & Eights as we head into a commercial break.

We return to Impact Wrestling and see EY and ODB run into Robbie E. and Robbie T. Robbie E. can’t belive that EY is carrying around the suit and how last year Robbie T. had to wear the suit and it scarred him. Robbie E. wants to have EY call him out so he can make Young wear the suit. Jesse and Tara walk in the picture and gloats about last week as EY says he can call them both out for the ultimate turkey extravaganza.

We head to the announce table who talk about Aces & Eights assault on Magnus last week as we are treated to a video package on the who Aces & Eights saga. We then head into the clubhouse of Aces & Eights as they are having a Thanksgiving meal and announce that DOC is a fully patched in member of the group. They then toss another dart at the wall and pick their next target as we head into a commercial break.

A video package on Christian York is aired, which goes over his introduction video and him winning Gut Check. York then makes his way to the ring to issue a Open Fight Night challenge. York says he has been working for 16 years to get to where he is at now and with Lady Luck on his side, he is going to call out someone he respects and admires, and calls out Jeff Hardy.

Match 4: Christian York vs. Jeff Hardy
Hardy comes out and the match starts as Hardy takes York down with a back elbow. Work comes back with a shoulder block and a dropkick that takes Hardy down as we head into a commercial break. We return to the match to see Hardy has taken control but misses with a Whisper in the Wind as York tries to take advantage and goes for a cover for a near fall. York follows up with a clothesline for another near fall before continuing to wear Hardy down. York takes Hardy down with a half nelson suplex and then locks Hardy in a submission hold until Hardy makes it to the ropes to break the hold.

Hardy is able to come back and goes for a Twist of Fate but York counters and hits Hardy with a Twist of Fate for another near fall. York then counters a swinging neckbreaker but Hardy counters and takes York down before heading to the top rope. York knocks Hardy down and tries for a superplex but Hardy counters and hits a sunset flip powerbomb. Hardy then comes at York with a series of strikes and finally hits a Twist of Fate. Hardy then heads to the top rope and hits the Swanton Bomb for the pin fall victory.

After the match, Hardy extends his hand and the two shake hands and show each other mutual respect. Bobby Roode then enters the ring and takes York out with a spinebuster before hitting Hardy with a spear. Roode then grabs the TNA World Championship and tells Hardy that the title is coming back to where it belongs at Final Resolution.

The announce team hypes the rest of tonight’s show which will feature a Turkey Suit match and they wonder who Austin Aries will call out. A video package focuses on Taeler Hendrix is aired. We then see her backstage with Brooke Hogan, who is giving Taeler words of encouragement as we head into a commercial break.

Taeler Hendrix makes her way to the ring and says she has been working hard and wants to she how she measures up to the gold standard as she calls out the TNA Knockouts Champion, Tara.

Match 5: Taeler Hendrix vs. Tara
Tara starts off strong against Taeler and rams her face into the mat before taking her down with a body slam. Tara takes her time and flirts with Jesse a bit before tossing Taeler across the ring and choking her on the ropes. Tara’s flirting ends up costing her as Taeler comes back and takes Tara down with a slam and follows with a head butt. Jesse tries to distract Taeler but she doesn’t fall for it and takes Tara down with a kick for a near fall. Tara fights back and takes Taeler down with the Widow’s Peak for the pin fall.

We see Eric Young and ODB walking backstage with the turkey suit and the Turkey Suit match is coming up next.

Match 6: Eric Young vs. Jesse vs. Robbie E. (Turkey Suit Match)
ODB, Tara, and Robbie T. are standing ringside for this match. The match starts and Jesse and Robbie try to one up each other by working over EY. The two then work together before posing but their partnership ends when they both try going for the pin attempt. EY then uses this as a way to get back into the match and takes them both down and scores a near fall after hitting Robbie with a belly-to-belly suplex. Tara and ODB then get involved and fight each other in the ring and roll over the referee in the process. Robbie T. then grabs EY and Robbie E. charges at EY but EY ducks out of the way and Robbie takes out his partner. Robbie E. is then sent out to the floor and EY rolls up Jesse to pick up the pin fall to win the match and Jesse has to wear the turkey suit.

After the match, Jesse puts the turkey suit on but he won’t put the head on. Tara finally puts it on for him and tries to give him a kiss but Jesse is to humiliated and just leaves the ring. EY and ODB then celebrate as Aces & Eights slowly make their way into the ring and corner EY. Young ties to fight them off but Devon takes him down with a baseball bat to the legs. ODB is then handcuffed to the ring post as Aces & Eights remove EY’s boot and DOC takes a hammer to EY’s exposed ankle. ODB pleads for them to stop until TNA agents run out to the ring and chase Aces & Eights off and we head into a commercial break.

The announce team run down what just went down with Eric Young and Aces & Eights and we see footage of EY being stretchered out. Christopher Daniels and Kazarian then make their way to the ring and Daniels talks about challenging AJ Styles to one last match and says he did it because Styles is going through some tough times and he wants to be there in his time of need. Kazarian then wants to thank AJ Styles for proving them right all along and calls Styles out to a match.

Match 7: Kazarian vs. AJ Styles
Styles comes out and the match starts with the two trading quick pin attempts in the early going. Styles then connects with a dropkick and follows with a head scissors takedown and a backbreaker to wear Kazarian down. Kazarian then pokes Styles in the eye and takes him down with a hard clothesline. Kazarian goes for a cover after slamming Styles down to the match before sending him out to the floor. Kazarian dances around the ring Gangnam style a bit until Styles comes back into the ring. Kazarian takes Styles down with a DDT and goes for a cover while using the ropes but referee Earl Hebner sees it. Kazarian begins to argue with Hebner and Styles connects with a Pele kick and picks up the pin fall.

Austin Aries is backstage and says it’s about time to stir things up a bit. Aries says he is going to open Pandora’s box nice and wide as we head into a commercial break.

Austin Aries comes to the ring and grabs a microphone and says he has some big things he wants to do right now. Aries says he hasn’t been getting a fair shake and the deck is being stacked against him. Aries says there is one name that is holding him down and that name is Hogan. Aries then calls out Hogan before saying he needs to be more specific and calls out Brooke Hogan.

Brooke’s music hits and she walks out on stage and Aries says he isn’t calling her out to wrestle, but because she is a Hogan. Aries says he is sick of the name Hogan and wonders if she is sick of the name as well. Aries says being a Hogan is putting her and her private life in the spotlight. Aries brings up her relationship with Bully Ray as Aries treats us to footage of what has gone down the past few weeks.

Hulk Hogan’s music hits as Hogan and Bully Ray come out. Ray runs to the ring and chases Aries out of the ring and Hogan tells Aries that he is a dead man. Hogan then turns his attention to Bully Ray who is sharing a look with Brooke as she tells Hogan that it’s not what he thinks before walking away and Impact Wrestling comes to a close.

– AJ Styles defeated Kazarian by pin fall.
