4/30/25 AEW Dynamite Recap

– The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada and Ricochet defeat Kenny Omega, Mark Briscoe, Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight in the opening match of AEW Dynamite, a star studded 8-man tag match.

The faces come down first and Kenny gets a nice pop. Okada and Omega face off right away before the match begins. It’s clear we are headed for a 1 on 1 match between them, possibly to unify the Continental and International championships?

Omega officially starts the match but Okada tags out right away. Nick Jackson distracts the faces demanding Mike Bailey get in the ring and the faces all get taken out.

Nick starts giving Kenny the business, and Okada tags in to pick the scraps. He lands an elbow and then tags Ricochet in. Kenny attacks Ricochet then tags Bailey in. Bailey tags Kevin Knight in and they land some tandem offense, including a standing frog splash by Knight onto Ricochet.

We get a ridiculous but fun spot where everyone misses an elbow, then all 8 men brawl. Mike Bailey and Mark Briscoe stand tall as we head into a break. We come back and Ricochet has regained the upper hand against Speedball.

The heels all suplex the faces at the same time, but they quickly recover, then each one picks a side of the ring and jumps to the outside onto their opponents. The heels recover shortly after themselves, and hit a couple splashes on Kenny and Mike Bailey.

Kenny continues to get isolated from his team but finally makes a tag to Mark Briscoe who immediately gets to work using his redneck kung fu. Mark hits a fisherman brain buster for a near fall on Okada (could you imagine?). Okada gains some offense but wastes time flipping everyone off before having his head legitimately taken off by a kick from Speedball.

Everyone else is down as Kenny and Okada finally come face to face. Kennys hits the snap dragon suplex and goes for a V trigger but Okada nails a perfect dropkick to stop him. Chaos erupts and Briscoe eats a tandem Tombstone but kicks out, then hits a Jay Driller on Okada but Ricochet makes the save.

Briscoe hits a death valley driver then goes for a froggy bow, but Ricochet again interferes and shoves him off. Okada grabs him and hits the Rainmaker ripcord clothesline for the big win.

– Hurt Syndicate is backstage when they attack a group of their own fans.

Shelton Benjamin and MVP continue to try and convince Bobby Lashley to let MJF into the faction and Lashley seems to be sternly against it.

– The Opps defeated Nick Comoroto, Rhett Titus, and Kyle’s Hawkins

– The Deathriders attack and take out Katsuyori Shibata, Samoa Joe is tired of Jon running away, he wants their Championship Match in 2 weeks to be changed to a Steel Cage Match.

– Mercedes Mone isn’t worried about Jamie Hayter in the final of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

She claims she’s the greatest and changes the game every time she steps in the ring and says Jamie is like her except the Scooby Doo style. “A champion shouldn’t look like a cartoon.”

– Christian Cage getting ignored, Jay Lethal cuts Christian Cage off as Jay wants a shot at the ROH World Television Championship, Christian Cage answers on Nick Waynes behalf, even though Nick said no he’s not warmed up but Christian books it anyways.

– Toni Storm defeats Miyu Yamashita in a Championship Eliminator match.

Before the match we get a short video package that actually explains who Miyu Yamashita is to anyone who might not know, which is a great deviation from how AEW usually operates.

The ladies shake hands before getting underway. Toni Storm hits the Lou Thesz press followed by a back breaker and a vertical suplex. She climbs the turnbuckle but Miyu nails her with a kick.

Toni goes for a hip attack but gets hung up in the ropes and Miyu lays in some kicks on Toni’s ‘buttocks’ in the words of Tazz. Luther tries to save Toni but he gets a kick and a shove for his trouble.

Yamashita maintains the upper hand for a short while, then the ladies trade big elbows and Toni does not back down from Miyu who is the clearly better striker. Toni hits a German suplex but Yamashita responds with a spinning kick for a near fall. Toni ihts a fisherman’s suplex for a near fall of her own.

Miyu hits what looks like a modified death valley driver and a kick to Toni, but Toni responds with another German suplex, a big Hip Attack and then the Storm Zero for the win.

Perfectly decent match here.

Mercedes Mone comes out next and it occurs to me that she will probably beat Toni for the title in the near future which is one of the dumbest things AEW could do.

Jamie Hayter comes down to interrupt and lays into Mone without saying a word.

– Don Callis and Kyle Fletcher vow that Kyle will win the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

– The Hurt Syndicate comes down and MVP says that they will try taking one more vote. He invites MJF to the ring.

MJF lays it on thick putting over the Hurt Syndicate. MJF then addresses Lashley and starts in on him for taking the Corvette last week, but MVP interrupts and calls for the vote. The crowd chants “Bob” to his irritation.

Lashley gives him yet another thumbs down. MJF then says that he’s about sick of his BS. He asks Lashley what his problem is, and wonders if he needs some Rogaine before calling him a big bald SoB. Lashley grabs him and powers him into the corner, and says if he wants to impress him, he needs to hurt someone.

– Christian Cage interrupted Nick Wayne’s entrance.

– Nick Wayne defeated Jay Lethal clean, no help, but Christian Cage snatched the ROH TV Title from the ref and didn’t give it to Nick Wayne but offered to put it on him instead.

– Hangman Adam Page defeats Kyle Fletcher in the semifinals of the Owen Hart Tournament.

We get a couple tie ups, some chain wrestling, and a chop from Hangman that knocks Kyle down. He takes a breather on the outside of the ring to stop Hangman’s momentum. Kyle starts to wear him down with a headlock. Hangman pays him back with some punches in the corner. He kicks Kyle and goes for the Buckshot Lariat, Kyle leaves the ring again and Hangman follows him with a clothesline over the barricade.

Kyle starts to bleed from his back after taking a bump onto the railing, his skin is pretty shredded up. The guys counter a series of moves against eachother before Hangman takes Kyle’s head off with another clothesline.

Hangman catches Kyle mid air for a Death Valley driver and a near fall. Hangman continues abusing Fletcher with a fallaway slam and then a springboard clothesline. Fletcher finally responds with some offense in a pair of kicks and a brainbuster on the apron. Fletcher gets cut off again after Hangman gives him a Tombstone on the floor.

We come back from the last break and both men are exchanging elbows, forearms and kicks. Fletcher hits a half nelson suplex but Hangman responds yet again with a pop up powerbomb for the near fall. Hangman then hits the Deadeye shortly after for a near fall but Fletcher will not go easily.

Fletcher hits a huge powerbomb of his own for a corresponding near fall. Kyle manages to stop another attempt at the Buckshot but Hangman gives him a Deadeye on the apron and a moonsault.

Fletcher shoves the ref, hits a low blow and a brain buster but Hangman KICKS OUT. Kyle goes for a brainbuster from the top turnbuckle, but Hangman stops him and hits a Buckshot Lariat from the ropes, then he hits another one as normal from the apron for the big win.
